English Classes

We offer beginning and intermediate English Language classes taught by local high school teachers and college professors.  The classes will be on a wide variety of topics, from grammar and reading to listening and pronunciation.  These classes are for adults age 16 and older.

The first day of class is for registration and placement testing.  Classes are offered three times a year (Hartford Public Library) at three different times (New York Public Library).  Classes are held in the Spring, Summer, and Fall during the day, evening, and weekend.  This allows us to reach more people in need.

Daytime Classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Evening Classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Weekend Class meets every Saturday at 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The classes will meet in the Conference Rooms. The beginning and intermediate class will be held at all of the meeting times, but they will be taught in different rooms.

We also offer free tutoring outside of classes if you need more help.  These volunteers are in the library every Tuesday and Thursday between 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. and every Saturday between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.  If you are in need of assistance please visit the tutors.

Because of limited classroom space, please contact the library's main office to be put on the class list.

To volunteer as a tutor or teacher with the program please contact the library's main office for more information.

If the class is filled you will be directed toward the English language collection.  It holds DVDs, CDs, books, and more about learning the English language on your own (Hartford Public Library). You are still able to utilize the tutors.
